Congratulations go to Stuart Bithell and Christian Birrell who took the GP14 National Championships at their first attempt in Abersoch last week. They used the latest design Boon Boats Epoxy GP14 launched at this years Dinghy Show to take the event at its first showing. It was a tough week with conditions varying from 3 knots up to 20 plus, which tested kit and crew to the full. The perfect proving ground for the Boon Boats epoxy GP14.
Although at times running all eight races looked a little uncertain all eight were run pretty much to schedule.
Boon Boats entered two GP14s for the event 14091 the eventual winner and 14090 used by Pete Mitchel (current youth Champion) crewed by Dave Hayes who finished a very strong and creditable 9th overall, with a best race result of 3rd. They used the new moulded 3DL North main which looked superb and performed equally well.
Both boats entered finished inside the top ten overall, a fantastic result for the first Nationals.
Christian & Stuart have kindly offered to write an article for us on how they approached the event and set up their boat for the wide variety of conditions experienced throughout the event.
