The Boon Boats GP14……… 1st Nationals 2011, 1st Midland Travellers Circuit 2011, 3rd Worlds 2012
Update :- February 2013
This is the first Epoxy Resin Infused GP14 to be designed and constructed from the ground up with completely new tooling built to allow the use of the latest manufacturing techniques.
The all new GP14 14132 built for Mike & Liz Senior is the boat that will be on display this coming weekend at the Alexander Palace Dinghy Show in London. We will be building the next boat for Bill Kenyon from Budworth shortly after.
The new boat is a culmination of a considerable amount of research and development and has incorporated within it a few firsts for the class. Come along and see the boat on the Association stand.
The most notable change this year has been in the manufacturing processes used. We now use the latest Resin Infusionprocess to manufacture the hull deck and internal tray. In brief, we place all the materials into the mould after the gel coat has been applied. The first layers of woven cloth followed by the specially selected closed cell foam core and then the last layer of cloth. A vacuum bag is then applied to the mould to consolidate the materials and remove air from within the stack. Resin feed tubes and flow medium are then connected to the part along with the required vacuum lines.
The part is then drop tested prior to opening the resin taps and allowing the resin to be pulled into the stack by the vacuum.
We recently commissioned alloy tooling to be CNC Machined from high grade alloy tooling plate for producing high quality epoxy foils for the completed boat as we have for our Solo. Read more.
The cad files for these foils have been optimized fully to produce the best foil possible within the current class rules. These highly polished mould tools will provide unrivalled symmetry, stiffness and production consistency along with a tough durable foil.
A brand new Alloy rudderstock is also been developed to complement the new foils and will be fitted to all our new GP14s.
Our first production boat will be on display at the Dinghy Show in March 2011, come and see us.
