New Boon FRP Phantom - Hull Specification
The build specification of each hull has been carefully designed to maximise weight concentration, stiffness and skin strength. To these ends every hull is laid up using polyester gel coat and a uniquely developed epoxy tie coat to provide excellent adhesion to the epoxy used in the rest of the lay up. Biaxial cloth is used in both the inner and outer skins of the boat with perforated close cell structural foam bonded between. Various thicknesses of foam are used throughout the boat. This combination provides the ultimate strength and durability required from this cutting edge Phantom. Much time and effort was spent working on a new thwart design tailored specifically for the Phantom to provide the ultimate enhancement to allow the inclusion of a constant radius, traveller track and car whilst also allowing the mounting of toe strap adjusters and providing the perfect centre console for the feeding of continuous control lines. The new thwart design not only performs well ergonomically but adds considerably to the aesthetics and most importantly overall hull strength.
The hull & deck and thwart are bonded together with a unique blend of epoxy & additives to provide what we believe to be the stiffest Phantom currently available. The above boat is the current National Championship winner 1351.
