Congratulations to Matt Howard 2010 Solo National Champion

Update 20th August 2010

Counting a truly outstanding 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,2

Boon Boats won all 12 races and finished 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th overall.

Matt Howard has become the 2010 Solo National Champion with a day to spare, simply outstanding! He sailed a flawless event and remarkably discarded a 2nd and a 3rd. Sailing his Boon Solo 5110 he quite literally dominated the week from day one sailing very very consistently. He gave an excellent and interesting insight into Olympic Campaigning with a talk on Thursday evening before the class AGM, which was very well attended and enjoyed by all. At the prize giving amongst all the silverware, he added " i have thoroughly enjoyed the week and will definitely be back". Charlie Cumbley 5097, 2008 and '09 Class National Champion came in 2nd overall taking 3 race wins with Jim Hunt 5147 chasing hard in 3rd winning the Boon Boats trophy for race 2. Jamie Lea 5141 finishing 4th.

2nd, 3rd and 4th places were all taken by previous and multiple Solo Class National and World Champions. All using Boon Solos, which we are very proud of. Well done guys. More Boon Boats successes below. Pictures here.

Weymouth Pre-Championships

Boon Boats 1st, 2nd & 3rd,

(Charlie Cumbley Victorious)

Update 5th July 2010

Charlie Cumbley 5097 reigned victorious counting a 1,1,1,1,2. Boon boats took the first 3 places overall and won each individual race held at the Weymouth Pre Champs over weekend of the 4th and 5th of July. However Charlie didn't have it all his own way and was hotly pursued all weekend by Matt Howard 5110 who counted 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, and Jim Hunt 5141 finishing 3. With the final result not secured until the last race. Saturday saw excellent sunshine and 12 to 15mph breeze, Sunday dawned with the same amount of sunshine and a considerably more breeze. Charlie used a new North ST1 made from a Technora variant more commonly used in the Finn Class and was very happy with its performance. The sail featured a lighter kevlar weave pattern sandwiched between more durable laminates. It looked very distinctive in yellow against the black spars on Charlies boat pictured right. More news on this and its availability in due course.

Well done also to Ray Collins 5073 for finishing first Master at the Pre Champs and to 2nd Veteran David Mitchell in his recently acquired Boon Frp 5122. More pictures from the event click here.

Success for New CNC Foils.

Our new CNC foils have now proven to be a step forward. They were used by 5 of the top 6 boats at this event to great effect. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th all used our new epoxy moulded foam cored fixed rudder and feed back was very positive "it feels nicely balanced with excellent feedback and a good weight saving too".

Jim Hunt takes the Northern Solo Championships.

Update 27th June 2010

Counting 1,1,1,1,1

Jim Hunt collected his new Boon Solo 5141 on his way up to compete in the Solo Northern Championships held at Hollingworth Lake SC over the weekend of the 26th and 27th of June.

He launched and sailed the boat for the first time on the way out to the start of the first race on Saturday morning. 5141 had been prepared to our usual high standard, a" ready too rumble" race package, sporting our newly optimized foam core foils. He stormed the weekend convincingly with 5, yes 5 straight wins, and was never beaten to the windward mark. The weekend was sailed in mostly light to perching on the side at best and Jim displayed excellent pace all round.

Our new foils are already proving to be a step forward in development and a significant improvement to an already very very successful Championship winning package. He used a Selden D+ mast paired with a Speed Sails radial cut laminate sail. Well done Jim!

New epoxy foam core foils are "standard" on our Solo

Foils Update 24th June 2010

All our brand new Boon boats Solos are now been supplied with epoxy moulded foam core foils produced from our CNC machined alloy tooling.

Click here to read more about the development and optimization of both the rudder and centre plate.

The rudder blade has been mated to a new lighter rudder stock to complete the improvement. Both foils and stock represent a leap forward in foil section optimization for the Solo together with a considerable weight saving overall. These foils are available to order or alternatively purchased via our online store shortly

Solo Epoxy Fixed Rudder 24th June 2010

Developed alongside the now standard foils we commissioned tooling to be CNC cut for a fixed rudder option favoured by a number of Solo sailors, again the underwater part is the same highly optimized blade as our hinged rudder blade with the stock moulded as part of the assembly. This option offers a nice weight saving, clutter free alternative to a standard assembly. The leading edge is canted forward for a light balanced feel. Jim Hunt and Charlie Cumbley will be using the fixed rudder at the major events this season. The fixed rudder is available to order or alternatively purchased

via our online store shortly.

Charlie Cumbley Wins the Tyler Trophy for the 2nd year running

Update 5th/6th June 2010

Boon boats finished 1st, 2nd & 3rd overall

Charlie Cumbley takes the Tyler Trophy for the second year running, held over the weekend of the 5th and 6th of June at Hayling Island SC.

The weekend started off with sunny flat water conditions and a breeze of 4 to 8 knots. Sunday however dawned with a little more, the most off which blew for the last race won by Jim Hunt. Newcomer to the Solo class Matt Howard also sailing a Boon sailed an excellent weekend and pushed Charlie all the way, not a bad start for his first Solo event.

So, 1st Charlie Cumbley, 2nd Matt Howard, 3rd Jim Hunt. A Boon Boats 1st, 2nd & 3rd overall.

Counting a  1,1.

Olly Dumbelton Wins Burwain Open.

Update 17th April 2010

Counting a  1,1.

Olly Dumbelton solo 5003 took his first Open win of the season at Burwain SC today. He won both of the first two races held on the day, with overall victory in the bag he chose to sit out race three. He now has a first and a second from West Riding to count towards his defence of the Northern Travellers title which he won in fine style in 2009. Olly continues to use a North sail matched to a Selden D+ rig. Great result Olly.

Chris Brown takes his second Major Championship.

Update 10th April 2010

Counting a  1,2.

Chris Brown, 2009 End of Season Champion continued his assault on the big events by adding the 2010 Spring Championships held at Oxford SC. Proof if ever it were needed that consistency pays. Chris sailed superbly and counted a 1st and a second to take the event overall from a star studded field. Sailing his new Boon solo in mostly very light and difficult  conditions he showed pace all around the course. Boon boats finished 1st, 4th and 6th. Boon boats continue to provide consistent pace throughout the wind range inland and on the sea. This is the third year in a row that Boon boats have won the Spring Championships and Winter Championships in a wide variety of conditions.

Great result Chris!

Chris Brown Wins at Broadwater Open.

Update 16th March 2010

Counting a  1,1.

Chris Brown, 2009 end of season champion opened his 2010 account taking the Broadwater Open meeting in fine style with two first places sailing his new Boon Solo. Despite the event clashing with Mothers Day the turn out for the event was good, with a variety of conditions throughout the day that provided a true test for all the competitors. Chris was using the new North ST1 laminate sail with a Selden D+ mast on his new Boon hull. Well done Chris.

1st Winter Championships 2010

Jim Hunt takes the season opener in dominant style.

Update 31st January 2010

Counting a  1,1.

Boon boats finished 1st & 3rd overall at the Winter Championships held on January 30th at Grafham Water SC.

Despite temperatures dropping prior to the event all competitors were greeted to a sunny day with enough breeze to stretch their legs. All three races were sailed back to back and run very efficiently, however the black flag did have to make an appearance to hold back the over enthusiastic.

Jim Hunt took control of the event early on in a borrowed boat. He took two 1st places to take victory overall. Thanks must go to Olly Dumbelton for the loan of his boat to Jim for the event. Cheers Olly!

Charlie Cumbley took delivery of his new Boon Boat 5097 and launched it at the event and recorded two 2nd places. Andy Davis took a win in the middle race, this added to a third place left him on equal points overall with Charlie Cumbley. Therefore Charlie finished 3rd on countback.

1st Veteran, Congratulations go to Richard Willets 5017 on winning the Veterans trophy, and to Steve Chiverton 5078 for finishing 3rd Veteran. Well done also to Ray Collins 5073 for finishing second in the Grand Master fleet, all hopefully helped along by their Boon Solos. Well done guys!

Pictures to follow on the GP14 pages shortly.

1st End Of Season Championship 2009

Chris Brown takes his first & much deserved Championship in fine style

Update 24th October 2009

Counting a  1,1.

Boon boats finished 1st, 3rd & 5th

Chris Brown sailing a factory standard, borrowed Boon FRP ( thanks Dave Liddington), took overall victory at the End Of Season Championship held at Draycote Water SC. He took the first race in fine style despite heavy and constant pressure from 2 times National Champion Charlie Cumbley who finished 2nd, both well clear of the field.   The wind strength continued to build throughout the 2nd race along with a big shift on lap 2 which saw Richard Pye take the lead and then the win by a comfortable margin. The final race sailed back to back in the strongest wind of the day saw many capsizes. As the race played out Charlie and Chris worked there way to the head of the field. Charlie lead by a couple of boat lengths on the penultimate lap only to capsize at the gybe mark, Chris seized the opportunity and took the lead, which he held on to to the finish giving him overall victory. This was Chris 's first Championship win after many second places and much deserved, hopefully the first of many. 1st Chris Brown, 3rd Andy Couch, 5th Charlie Cumbley. A Boonboats 1,3,5.

1st Midland Travellers Championship 09'

1st South Staffs SC Open Meeting

Counting a  1,1.

Update 13th October 2009

Chris Brown sailing his Boon FRP 4983, took overall victory of the Midland Travellers Championship at the final Open Meeting of the series held at South Staffs SC. He followed Andy Couch home in second overall on the day to take the overall title for 2009. Andy Couch won the Open on the day with a rare appearance in his fathers boat also a Boon FRP 4913. Chris brought the series, and his first season in a Boon to a close in excellent form which he has maintained all season. His new boat is on order for 2010,  very well done Chris.

1st Northern Travellers Championship 2009

1st Nantwich SC Open Meeting

Counting a  1,1,2.

Update 11th October 2009

Oliver Dumbelton sailing his Boon FRP 5003, took victory at Nantwich Open Meeting counting, 1,1,2  as his score line. He took line honours for the Open Meeting, and with it overall victory of the Northern Travellers series 2009, very well done Olly.

It was a tough season which Oliver dominated early on in the year with back to back wins. Having missed some Open Meetings mid season, it left the title fight open right up to the last event. The way the day unfolded mean't that the winner would be decided by the result of the final race of the day.

In an increasing breeze, Olly took the lead at the first mark and was only headed once due to a downwind capsize, from which he recovered rapidly to retake the lead. A lead that he increased to the finish. Well done to Richard Whitelock also in a Boon FRP for coming in a solid third. Congratulations all round, well done.

Sailing his new Boon FRP 4983 in winds predominantly light and shifty, Chris proved to be master of the conditions and therefore the day. Well done Chris.

BOON FRP 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 5th at Winter Championships 2009

Update 31st January 2009

Jim Hunt (Purple Sails) took the 2009 Winter Championships held at Grafham Water on Saturday 31st of January. It was a very hard fought day in winds gusting to force 6 and desperately low temperatures.

Charlie Cumbley 4986 took the first race of the day in his new Boon solo launched for the first time on the day. David McGregor 4833 also in a Boon took the 2nd race in an increasing breeze displaying awesome upwind pace, (he collects his new boat this week). The third race saw the ever consistent Jim Hunt 4985 who needed the race win, to dig deep and take the race from David McGregor to win overall with a 1st and 2nd to count, equal on points to David but won on count back. Charlie Cumbley took 3rd   with a win and a 4th to count, Chris Brown 4983 also had an excellent day and took 5th overall with pace all round in his new Boon FRP.  Boon Boats won all three races and finished 1st 2nd 3rd and 5th. This has been a great start to the 2009 season further building on the successes of 2008.
