Here at Boon Boats the 2011 season has been an excellent first season for our new Boon Epoxy GP14 with wins across the board both inland and out on open sea. The first hull was manufactured and launched at the Dinghy Show in March and hit the water winning from its first Open. The same thorough and thoughtfull approach to detail and choice of the best quality materials used in our Solo have been carried forward with this new addition to our range. We would like to say a special thank you everyone who has been involved in this project at some stage or other from the very start and had a hand in making this happen both on and off the water. Fantastic!
Looking forward to 2012 the GP14 Class is holding its premier event the World Championships at LOOE SC. Entries have been capped at 130 boats, almost half of these slots have already been taken up. If you are interested in a new Epoxy GP14 in time for this event contact us.

Steve Boon and Emily Cole-Evans teamed up for the first time in the new GP14 for the open at Bartley SC. These final races were completed inside the breakwater, Mike Sims 5161 took third overall from 4th placed Dave Mitchel 5219. Chris Brown 5210 was placed 3rd overall on Saturday night but lost out in a protest pushing him down.

He took the event by the scruff of the neck from the start of the day, winning race one and then race two shortly after lunch. Having bagged the event he chose to sit out the last race. In fact only a half dozen or so boats racked up for the final race of the day given the now building breeze. A very testing day for all. Well done David.

Update 28th of March 2011
Counting 1,1
The 2010 GP14 Youth Champions win in the new boat, first time out!

Having passed measurement with the GP14 rules and technical committee last week our new GP14 14090 was ready to sail for the first time coming fresh from display at the Alexander Palace Dinghy Show.
Launched on Saturday 26th of March for the first time, the all new Boon Boats GP14 took to the water for a run through of her new systems and features.
After an afternoon of tuning and calibrating she was ready for the Midland Bell Open Meeting at Nantwich the following day.
Sunday dawned to light and shifty breezes that tested all. Raced for the first time by Pete "Maverick" Mitchel and crewed by our own Andy 'Floyd" Hunter the 2010 Youth Champions, the boat flew from the off. They took second in the first race having lead the way for most of it, before settling in to the new craft and promptly following up with two comfortable first places. The new North sails KM-2 laminate main and DJ-2C Dacron genoa combined with the new epoxy hull design provided pace all round, that both of the boys were very happy with. Well done and a great start for the new boat.

Solo Winter Championships 2011
Update 31st of January 2011
Counting 1,1
Charlie Cumbley set out his stall for the season with a comfortable win at this weekends Winter Championships held at Grafham Water on Saturday the 29th of January. He used a standard off the shelf boat 5152 on loan for the day, his new boat for the coming season is due for completion shortly and will be on display on the Class Association stand at the Dinghy Show in March. (Stand C44). Come and see the new specification for 2011.
Charlie promptly took the first two races, leading both at the first mark by a considerable margin and never headed throughout. The two victories were sufficient to give him the trophy with a race to spare, he chose to sit the last one out given the very cold conditions and I for one don't blame him! This is the 4th year in a row that a Boon Solo has won this event. Chris Brown lost out on 3rd overall and finished 4th on count back. Michael Simms 5161 finished 5th.
Well done to Ray Collins 1st Veteran.
